Measure Across Chest from Right Shoulder Joint to Left Shoulder Joint

How to Measure Your Dog
for Authentic Tartan Dog Apparel

COLLAR - measure around dog’s neck where collar fits. Then add the width of two fingers so that the collar will not be too tight.

BASE OF NECK TO BASE OF TAIL - Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

GIRTH - Measure ALL the way around the girth of the dog at the widest point behind the dog's front legs.

CHEST - Standing in front of the dog, start at the side of the dog’s right shoulder (where the top joint of the dog’s leg meets the shoulder). Measure from the MIDDLE of the leg joint all the way under the dog’s chin, ACROSS the chest, to the MIDDLE of the leg joint at the dog’s left shoulder. DO NOT measure over the back (neck) of the dog. It is very important that this measurement be accurate, because the chest measure determines the correct fit for the front closure and proper fit of the garment.

We have access to over 500 authentic Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Canadian and military tartans. The 30 tartan swatches shown below are the favorites of our Heelan’ Hound customers. However, if your family tartan is not shown, ask us if it is possible to Special Order for you.

Please remember that these are digital images of authentic tartans. The actual colors may vary slightly from what you see. Sometimes dark blues and greens may appear black. There are also color variations between the modern and ancient versions of the same tartan. If you have any questions as to the exact colors in a particular tartan, please contact us.

We have over 500 tartans available by Special Order. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery if your desired tartan has to be ordered from the mill in Scotland. Delivery is affected by mill runs, the Royal Mail and U.S. Customs.

Payment in Full is Due with All Orders. Please DO NOT send credit card numbers over this website. Your VISA. MasterCard, or Discover debit or credit card is welcome, but for your protection, call us with that information because this is NOT a credit secure site. Because of the many various combinations of tartans and dog sizes, we do not have a shopping cart system.

We ship Heelan’ Hound orders by USPS Priority Mail. Delivery is usually 2 to 3 days in the continental United States. Shipping, insurance and tracking costs are in addition to the order.

International orders will be sent by International Express mail. Delivery times and costs can vary, and it is not unusual for an order to be held up in Customs. You should plan accordingly when you place an order for your dog’s garment.
